Series for SCP content

The SCP Foundation has a lot of ripe, thought-provoking material for anyone interested in screenwriting/filmmaking.
Netflix would either buy it or butcher it and I think people are generally tired of yet another Netflix show so the market is ripe for something different. I’ve seen a couple adaptations of these stories but given how much more accessible GPUs and VFX gear is, I wonder why no one is doing some high-quality indistinguishable-from-Netflix type work. If only we could get more Ian Huberts working on this…

Actually good air mattresses

I might just be an idiot but how feasible is it to make good, comfortable, air mattresses that do not leak. Obviously temperature changes are an issue, but is there really no way to go around this? If we took a dog to space, we can 100% figure out how to keep a mattress inflated for a couple extra hours. I’d argue that most people will happily shell out some good money for something like this given the recent popularity of hiking/camping.
Make it a luxury product if you must. Arc’teryx for air mattresses.

Research on seasoning cast iron pans

No one has done scholarly research on seasoning cast iron pans - what kind of oil works best, what kind of heat works best, what kind of procedure works best, what’s the best temperature to bake your pan, can you wash the pan with soap. If you are a graduate student in materials science or something, I think a great dissertation or thesis project is hiding in plain sight here. Adam Ragusea

Organizing data for football clubs/data analytics companies

I was watching this video on how some European football clubs have essentially turned into trading firms for players. They’re using analytics to buy low and sell high. Some part of me thinks this is how scouting has always worked but I’m not sure… I’m guessing traditionally the goal of scouting is to get talent they can retain and help them win titles. Some teams seem to be shifting away from maximizing prestige and more towards just maximizing profits. Either way, there seems to be some alpha in simply collecting and organizing data for scouts and selling it to clubs. Think of all the hidden talent playing in dust fields in western Senegal. This also doesn’t seem to be a technical problem. Just collect the basic stats (goals, shots on goal, shots, successful tackles, etc.) and put them in a database.

  • There is no need to analyze this data either. Just literally sell API access
  • You could probably charge extra to do the ML side since there is a lot of benefit in owning the foundation models
  • A bonus here is that you can extrapolate this to virtually any sport

Reliable anti-boner mechanism/contraption

I’d take an injection if I knew it would keep it down in awkward situations. Anything goes here: boxers, pills, straps… anyone?

Instacart bags

Seriously, what are we supposed to do with all these Instacart bags?
